The plumage gives it away, also the size and build. This one has the mature plumage, but the iris is yellow meaning it is about a year old, The eye will turn brown with age. The juvenile Cooper's plumage is streaked on the breast and barred on the wings and tail. The mature Cooper's is totally different, gray on the wings and gray on the very long tail with wide bars. The eye is red. Take a look at my web page in raptor collections for many images of both.
